National Champions!! - 09 October 2007 at 10:47
Following their success at this year’s Pontins, Yorkshire Area and Whit Friday contests, Pennine Brass took to the stage at the First Section National Finals in Harrogate last weekend.

Their energetic performance of ‘Victorian Snapshots: On Ractcliffe Highway’ was impressive enough to secure a win 4 points clear of runners-up Northop and the band’s winning total of 194 points exceeded the recommended maximum points for the First Section Champions by 2 points.

The band's solo B flat bass, Pete Denton, also clamied the soloist prize on the day for his superb solo playing and committed contribution throughout the piece.

Since their demotion to the first section in 2005 the band and MD have worked extensively hard in their efforts to continuously improve as a team. Their win at the weekend is the beginning of a new challenge to now compete in the Yorkshire Areas Championship Section with a strong fight to reach some of their best achievements to date.

The band would like to thank Emily Jeffcot and Chris Beaumont for helping out on the day.
